Satan: Like a spider in the dark (April 2017)

pastorterryDear Church Family:

Back in October, I wrote about a spider in the kitchen sitting on the top of the coffee maker. I had tried to kill it, but was not sure if my hitting at it had done the job. Yesterday, I was in the kitchen watching our small television that sits on the counter, when I saw a black creature run across the screen. At first I thought it was something on the lens of the TV camera. Then I realized that it was on my side of the tube, and it was the same type of spider I had tried to kill before. It
quickly ran across the screen, and then stopped on the small black edge that surrounds the top of the screen.

I yelled at Martha, “Look there is that big black spider again, get something and kill it.” I knew that the sign of a good leader is delegation, and I had tried my luck in the past, and had evidently not been successful. Also, I must confess that I am scared of spiders, and was sure the spider would either jump on me, or that I would miss the kill, and he would get away. Besides, I figured as a nurse, she had more skill than I did when it came to cleaning up a mess. Martha quickly got a paper towel, slowly approached the spider, snatched him up into the towel, and sent him to spider heaven. At first, I didn’t believe it, so I said, “are you sure it is dead” and then she showed me his remains, and sure enough he was dead.

Like this spider lurking in the dark, ready to strike, so Satan lurks around our lives looking for a way to rob us of joy and peace in our lives. He wants to take us by surprise, and often shows up when we least expect him. The enemy is always seeking to take away the joy from our lives. He wants to wear us down with fear, with worry, and with frustrations so that we will follow him, versus living for the Lord. Nehemiah 8:10 NIV says, “Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is our strength”. Satan wants to keep us weak and looking to other means to bring us joy.

John 15: 11 “I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” The Lord wants to fill us with joy as we study His word and stay in His presence. Come and be filled with Joy as we celebrate Easter together at Southside.
