Read John 11:1-44***
Nobody likes to hear his name called. Not by teachers. Not by the IRS. Not by the pastor, especially during the sermon as an example of how not to live.
One time I was in the Tel Aviv airport in Israel, and my name came over the loud speaker. I froze. Apparently they were watching me and wondered why I wandered from my group. “They were moving too slowly,” I replied. The officials didn’t like the answer.
Two hours and a full body check later they were let me go.
There is one time you want to hear your name called, and that’s when Jesus calls you from the grave and into his presence. Martha understood resurrection when her brother, Lazarus, died, saying to Jesus, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day”(John 11:24). So Jesus gave us a little sneak peek into that last day. Lazarus, playing the dead guy, lay in the tomb when Jesus called his name. “Lazarus,” he cried. “Get yourself out here!” Lazarus hopped out, and the people were amazed. All Jesus had to do was say his name, and he was freed from the tomb.
So the question is, does Jesus know your name? Of course he knows everything, but do you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ? Lazarus was a close friend. Jesus knew his name, but he knew him better as a friend. Jesus calls the names of his friends on that last day. Make sure he knows you, or better yet, make sure you know him.
