Dear Church family –
If you are like me, we all have times when we get discouraged. Sometimes, we can just become “weary in well doing.” There may be other days, when we just find ourselves, “singing the blues” or just “down in the dumps.” We may not even know why we are feeling down, but we can be sure, it is not where the Lord wants us to stay.
The Psalmist, David, asks a profound question, and then gives us an answer for our problems in Psalms 42:5 “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” Here we are reminded to put our hope, our trust, in God. We must ask Him to fill our hearts and minds with His praise. It is in the midst of looking for the hand of God, the work of God in our lives, that we then find encouragement.
As a church, we are blessed and have so much for which to praise the Lord. We just finished another successful Impact Wednesday, as we partner with other agencies to help meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those in our community. Today the Manna ministry served over eighty individuals who needed a hot meal and some words of encouragement.
Today, we also had the largest number of people ever, receiving help from the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia. Other agencies helped individuals find jobs, housing, eye care, and a host of other services. I personally had the opportunity to have several spiritual conversations with individuals. All who came seemed so appreciative of the help provided.
Many churches that are twice our size would not seek to provide such a ministry. I appreciate the heart for missions that Southside continues to display. It is also exciting to be a part of a praying church, and I look forward to seeing how the Lord continues to provide the gifts, talents, and resources to expand His Kingdom.
